Nokia now owns Navteq, a mapping services company. Using Nokia's Navteq mapping services, Yahoo will be able to improve its map offerings.
According to Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, CEO of Nokia, the partnership with Yahoo will help Nokia to extend its market in the U.S., where, despite being the biggest seller of phones in the planet, it has only a tiny market share.
A variety of Ovi-branded Web services, with 9 million customers around the world, were started by Nokia a few years ago. Though it has attracted some mail users, it stopped its social networking application and photo-sharing service,
According to both the companies, though some of the services will be available in the latter half of 2010, global availability is expected only in 2011.
