SRINAGAR, India-controlled Kashmir, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Indian and Pakistani armies Monday exchanged fire on international border in India-controlled Kashmir, the state-run television Doordarshan reported.
According to the TV report, the fire exchange took place in R.S. Pora sector, around 35 km south of Jammu city, the winter capital of India-controlled Kashmir. "Pakistani troops from a forward post fired on Indian posts in the R.S. Pora sector. Indian troops also fired in retaliation which resulted in an exchange of fire for more than two hours. Pakistani troops have resorted to firing to push militants in the region," said the TV channel's Kashmir channel.
No loss of life was reported in the firing.
The Indian border guards, Border Security Force, are contemplating to take up the matter of cease-fire violations with their Pakistani counterparts, said the report.
India and Pakistan agreed to observe a cease-fire along the International Border and line of control in Kashmir in 2003.
Though some violations have been reported on both sides, the cease-fire remains in effect.
A foreign secretary level meeting between India and Pakistan is scheduled to take place in Islamabad on June 24.
