We don't rate each other: Abhi-Aish

hey are the most sought after onscreen and offscreen couple and individual stars, but Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan say they would never rate each other professionally.

Having worked in six films together, the couple is going to rub shoulders again for Mani Ratnam's upcoming movie Raavan and analysing each other at work is the last thing on their mind.

"We don't rate each other. We just like working with each other as co-actors," Aishwarya, 36, said via telepresence from Mumbai late Friday night.

"Abhishek is a very free actor. He breaks himself free. He works as a team member and doesn't act as a male lead or anything of that sort (on work)," added the former Miss World-turned-actress, who was wearing a white salwar kameez and a pink dupatta.

"He is a team mate fulfilling his director's vision in every which manner he can and a pleasure to work with," she added.

Her actor-husband chipped in: "We don't criticise our performances. As a wife, Aishwarya has always been equally and completely supportive and more than that as a co-actor, she does everything to make it go right. She does not ever compromise even on her co-star's work."

"(And) as a couple we never bring work home...that's a rule," added the actor, who was sporting a pink shirt and a black suit.

The pair earlier worked together in films like Dhai Akshar Prem Ke, Kuch Naa Kaho, Umrao Jaan, Dhoom 2, Guru and Sarkar Raj.

The couple, who married in 2007, was speaking through video conferencing that ran simultaneously for more than two hours across the capital, Mumbai, Chennai, New York and Dubai to promote Raavan.

Also present with them were Ratnam and Tamil superstar Vikram from the southern city. Vikram makes his Bollywood debut with the movie.

Releasing June 18, Raavan is a bilingual, co-produced by Reliance Big Pictures and Madras Talkies.

In the movie, Abhishek plays outlawed local hero Beera Munda, who kidnaps Aishwarya (Ragini), wife of Vikram (police officer Dev). As the story progresses she reportedly develops a soft corner for her abductor.

Maran of Sun TV Network to buy 37.75% stake in SpiceJet

Mumbai: Media baron Kalanithi Maran of Sun TV Network Ltd on Saturday has agreed to buy 37.75% stake in India’s second largest low-fare carrier SpiceJet Ltd from its promoter Bhupendra (Bhulo) Kansagra and distressed-assets buyout specialist Wilbur L. Ross for an undisclosed amount, according to two airline executives said.
Maran, who runs 20 television channels and two general newspapers in south India, will start the process of making an open offer to SpiceJet’s minority shareholders to acquire an additional 20% stake from Monday. Under Indian takeover rules, any acquisition of 15% or more triggers an open offer and the acquirer needs to make an offer for at least another 20% of the target company. Edelweiss Capital Ltd is exclusive adviser to the deal.
“On Saturday, Maran has agreed to buy out 37.75% stake from Kansagra and Ross. But the acquisition will completed in sequential manner over a period of time. Till then, the current board will remain as same,” he said, requesting anonymity.
He did not specify the broad contours of the acquisition.
Maran, elder brother of Union textiles minister Dayanidhi Maran, has been keen to enter the aviation industry and had even obtained a no-objection certificate from the ministry of civil aviation to run a non-scheduled air passenger service.
Kansagra, who owns 12.89% in the company through Royal Holding Services Ltd, said he will be on the board of SpiceJet for time being.
